The High School Career Technical Education (CTE) programs went through an annual review by N.A.T.I.V.E. Superintendent Mr. Ron Tsosie and N.A.T.I.V.E. CTE Coordinator Mr. Jon Yazzie on May 7th. We are happy to report that all 9 programs meet the requirements for funding for SY2019-2020.

During the review, we identified three exemplary programs for SY2018-2019:

·         AgriScience/Plant Systems - Teacher Jefferson Foster,

·         Construction Technologies - Teacher Darwin Jackson, and

·         Culinary Art - Teacher Nellie McCurtain.

These programs & teachers have exceeded the program requirements by N.A.T.I.V.E. and must be commended for their exemplary performance.

Out of the three exemplary programs, we were informed by N.A.T.I.V.E. Superintendent to select one program to be recognized at the N.A.T.I.V.E. District CTE Awards Banquet on May 15th in Chinle, AZ. The program that we selected from Pinon High School to receive the “Program of the Year” award is Construction Technologies. Congratulations to Mr. Darwin Jackson and his students for their outstanding performance this year.

In addition to the “Program of the Year”, we were notified to select one female and one male “CTE Student of the Year”. Our CTE programs nominated students to be considered for the award and the following students were selected:

·         Raelencia Neztsosie nominated by Mrs. Nellie McCurtain

·         Matthew Dante-James Greyeyes nominated by Mrs. Traci Jones

The students will receive a $250.00 scholarship from NTEC and a plaque for their exemplary performance in the CTE programs. Congratulations!!!

We want to thank all the teachers in the CTE programs for their outstanding dedication and commitment to student achievement and providing students the opportunity to develop the necessary skills to be college and career ready. Thank you for everything you do for our students.
