Dear Parents/Guardians of Pinon High School Students:

Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to work with your student in bringing them to educational success! Please know that you are NEEDED, WANTED, and most of all, APPRECIATED!

WELCOME to an EXCITING year with many challenges. Although we know we will have challenges, we are not going to let that stop us in trying to provide your student with the BEST education possible. With that being said, all of us; Teachers and Administrators are going to need your help and support in making sure that your student is taking advantage of the virtual/online learning opportunity on a daily basis. During this COVID-19 Pandemic, this is the safest and the BEST way to offer educational opportunities to our students. However, your student is going to have to want to do this if they want to get through their high school years. We do not want your student to fall behind. With that being said, as parents, we are really going to need your help and support in making sure your student is ready to learn virtually and online every day. Please make sure that they are keeping up with their classes and if there are any questions, please reach out to their teachers at any time. We are here to be of service to you!

For at least the 1st Quarter, we will be doing virtual/online classes for those students who have dependable internet access. For those students who do not, we will be providing Instructional Packets every two weeks. We can provide all the educational tools necessary for your student to be successful, however, that is going to have to be up to them.

For those students who have internet capabilities, this is the plan:

1)On Sunday evenings, starting July 26, 2020, PHS Teachers will be emailing students what is expected to be covered for that week along with any assignments that are due. This will also include any YouTube videos, Google Classrooms, etc. regarding lesson presentations. Students will watch these presentations from their teachers and complete the required assignments in a timely manner and return via email. Every student has an email account from the high school for their use.

2)Every day, Monday through Friday, students will be expected to answer one question via email from each of their teachers. This is the way we will be taking daily attendance. If a student does not answer the question or acknowledge the emails from their teachers daily, they will be considered absent. After 3 consecutive absences, we have to choose but to contact Child Protective Services to investigate as to why your student is not participating in this learning opportunity. Education is not an option, it’s the law and every student under the age of 18 must be enrolled in school or taking virtual/online classes. So please make sure your student acknowledges these emails and is fully engaged in PHS’ Virtual/Online learning.

3)Below is the schedule that teachers from PHS will be following:

4)Students can reach out to their teachers at any time Monday through Friday outside of the 1:00-3:30 time designated for Checking for Understanding/Face-to-face Online Meetings via phone calls, text messages, and emails. It will be the student’s duty and responsibility to reach out to their teachers for clarification of assignments. If students do not understand the lessons that are presented via YouTube, Google Classrooms, etc., their teachers are willing and able to assist them.

For those students who do not have internet capabilities, this is the plan:

1)On Monday, starting July 27, 2020, instructional packets will be mailed out every two weeks containing materials from the PHS Teachers to students who do NOT have internet capabilities. It will be up to the student to contact their teachers for clarification and understanding if they have questions via phone. Upon the completion of assignments, these can be dropped off at the PUSD Security Station in the “Drop Off Box” provided. Students will need to place their finished assignments in an envelope with Pinon High School, their name and their teacher’s name on it.

2)Every day, Monday through Friday, students will be expected to either call or text their teachers letting them know that they are willing and able to learn and are working on the materials that have been sent to them. This is the way that we will be taking daily attendance. If a student does not reach out to their teachers on a daily basis, they will be considered absent. After 3 consecutive absences, we have to choose to contact Child Protective Services to investigate why your student is not checking in with their instructors and participating in this learning opportunity. Education is not an option, it’s the law and every student under the age of 18 must be enrolled in school or taking virtual/online classes. So please make sure your student reaches out to their teachers and are fully engaged in completing the PHS’ Instructional Packets to the best of their ability.

Once again, please help us so that we can help your student be the BEST they can be in reaching their academic goals in becoming lifelong learners. We are here to serve you and your student in any way we can. Feel free to reach out to us at any time.

Very Respectfully,

Mr. Timothy Nelson
Principal
