Facts
Effective the 2020-21 school year, the Arizona Department of Education Office of English Language Acquisition Services approved new research based Structured English Immersion (SEI) models.
The underlying principles of the Arizona Language Development Approach is the foundational understanding that English Learners (ELs) are valuable members of our educational community, and ALL individuals at every level within the educational system have an active role in ensuring the success and achievement of our English Learners.
The expectation is that language, literacy, and learning practices are connected in all subject and instructional models.
Goal for English Learners
The goal is for ELs to become proficient in the English language in order to achieve academic success.
What does an English Learner classroom look like?
Pinon Unified School District offers the Pull-Out SEI (Structure English Immersion) Model to support the acquisition of English.
The Pull-Out SEI (Structure English Immersion) Model offers students targeted with an SEI specialist to meet the goals of the students. In this model students meet with an SEI Specialist to receive differentiated instruction based on their English language proficiency level.
The class structure consists of :
Students receive targeted and explicit language instruction in English language proficiency standards.
English as the language of instruction.
Materials are in English.
Students are taught by highly qualified SEI teachers who meet the state guidance. *
Additional Support and Services
Interpreting Services is provided during parent teacher conferences.
