Greetings PUSD Community,
The Temporary Distance Learning option is scheduled to end on Friday, February 11. Beginning on Monday, February 14 all PUSD students will need to return to in person instruction on campus or be enrolled in our Pinon Eagles Online Academy. This follows the same direction as the other Arizona public schools on the Navajo Nation which also plan to return to on- campus instruction on February 11. If you have any questions or would like to switch to the Online Academy please contact the school offices.
We want to finish the 3rd quarter with high attendance rates and strong academic achievement. All mitigation measures are still in place on campus including a requirement that all students and staff wear face coverings. New air purification systems are in place in PES and PAMS classrooms. PHS had new ventilation systems installed earlier this year. Please do not send your child to campus if they have any signs of illness or symptoms of COVID-19. Temperature checks and screening are still required to enter the school buildings or school buses.
We strongly recommend students and staff participate in our weekly pooled COVID-19 testing each week on Wednesday. It is also recommended that all students ages five and up are fully vaccinated as soon as possible.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to having all our students back on campus!

The Pinon Unified School Board meeting for February 2 will be rescheduled to a later date due to internet and telephone issues on campus. Thank you for your understanding.

Pinon Unified Community, we still do not have internet access on campus and telephone lines are not consistently working this afternoon. Parent Teacher Conferences for today will be rescheduled if you were not able to make contact today. Sorry for any inconvenience!

PINON UNIFIED COMMUNITY,
We are currently experiencing an internet and telephone outage on campus. We do not have an estimate on when services will be restored. Thank you for your understanding. We will keep you updated.

Greetings PUSD,
Please take a minute to review the draft SY 2022-2023 school calendar and complete the following survey.

Pinon Unified School District
Response to Recent COVID-19 Increase in Cases
Greetings Pinon Unified Community,
Pinon Unified School District is aware of the rising COVID-19 case numbers in our communities, and how it may impact the operations of our school district. The health and safety of all our students is our top priority. We are following guidance from IHS and Navajo Nation. The Navajo Nation increased the COVID mitigation status level from "orange" to "red" earlier this week. The situation can change quickly, please continue to monitor the school district website and Facebook page for updated information.
PUSD has had both an online and an on-campus program since the beginning of the school year. We will continue to offer both of those programs at this time.
Beginning Thursday, January 13 we will also offer a third temporary remote learning option using the Governing Board adopted Instructional Time Model. Parents will have the option to enroll their students into this program using the link below. Students can participate online using district issued Chromebook laptops or through printed learning packets if there is no internet access at home. Attendance and completing of assignments, including assessments, will be required for all students during this time frame. The location may change but learning continues.

We plan for all students (PreK-12) to report for in-person instruction on Monday, January 31, 2022 unless they are in the Pinon Eagles Online Academy. We will be evaluating the situation over the next two weeks and this date may change as necessary.
Students receiving ESS services will be contacted by their ESS teacher regarding each student’s IEP in a remote setting. Attendance documentation will be required for all services provided.
Athletics:
Effective Thursday, January 13th through Monday, January 31st all PHS Freshman teams and PAMS Middle School Athletics will be rescheduled (if possible) or canceled. PHS Varsity and Junior Varsity practices and games will be held as scheduled but this may change based on the numbers of students and staff available. The numbers of fans and spectators will be limited based on Navajo Nation guidelines. The PUSD athletic department recently posted an update to our Facebook page. Events will continue to be livestreamed when possible.
Parents:
Please enroll your student in the pooled testing program if they are attending classes on campus. This is the best way to monitor the spread of COVID and catch any cases early. Discuss with your student the importance of wearing their mask at all times and school and on the bus, frequent hand washing and use of hand sanitizer, and keeping social distance during the day. Please continue to wear your mask in public places and practice social distancing.

PUSD Community-
We are asking all parents/guardians to submit permission forms for our COVID-19 pooled testing program. This is an effective mitigation strategy to help keep our schools safe and reduce spread in the community. Pooled testing will be every Monday and Wednesday (today).
The form can be accessed on our PUSD website at this link: https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/1434250/PUSD_COVID-19_Testing_Consent_Form-Parent_Guardian.pdf
Please have your student bring this form or contact your school office for more information. You do not need to submit a new form If you already submitted a form last semester.
Thank you for your assistance and support!

Good morning PUSD,
No school today due to winter weather and power outages in the area. Internet and cell services are also limited. Staff on 11 or 12 month contracts will have a two hour delayed start, contact your supervisor for more information. Stay warm and stay safe!
