April 11, 2021 Greetings Pinon Unified Community, In response to Navajo Nation Public Health Emergency Order No. 2021-008: Re-Issuing Stay at Home (Shelter in Place) Order and Continuing Daily Curfew, issued on April 9, 2021, Pinon Unified School District will suspend state testing and onsite support services for students beginning Monday, April 12, 2021. Distance Learning will continue to be offered to all PUSD students based on the schedules in place since the beginning of the school year. PUSD meal services will continue with our Tuesday and Thursday delivery schedule and local meal pick up on the PUSD campus. Thank you for your support and patience as we continue to provide the best educational services possible and also do what is best for our students health and safety. PES Onsite Services Good Morning Students and Parents/Guardians, We are offering Onsite Services at PES Monday thru Thursday from 7:30 am to 11:30 am. Please Arrive before 8 am; No students are allowed in the building after 8 am. Drop is at the front loop of PES at 7:30 am, please remain in the vehicle and a staff member will meet you at your vehicle. All students need to have temperature checks done and a waiver must be signed. If you have not completed your enrollment packet or are missing documents those must be turned in prior to being allowed in the PES building. For onsite services students get Chrome Computers to use that day, the internet is connected, hand sanitizing stations are set up, and breakfast/ lunch will be served. If you have any questions please feel free to contact the PES front office at 928-725-2201/2202.

Greetings Pinon Unified Community, On Tuesday, April 13, 2021, Chinle Service Unit will have a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic at the Forest Lake Chapter House from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, or until the vaccine supply runs out. The Johnson & Johnson (Janssen) COVID-19 vaccine will be available for individuals, ages 18 years and older. This is the vaccine that only requires one dose. Please share the information and spread the word! Greetings Pinon Unified Community, The PUSD Governing Board approved my request to extend distance learning through the end of 4th quarter. This extends our current plans and operations through the end of the school year. I know this isn’t the “best” or the “normal’ way to provide instructional and support services to our students. Online learning and instructional packets can be difficult and stressful for students and their families. I very much appreciate everything our families are doing to support our students during this time. We are an academic institution but we must consider health and safety to be the first priority. When the COVID-19 rates dropped last fall in Arizona and on Navajo Nation I was hopeful that we could begin on campus instruction in January. The rapid rise in cases in November through January made that impossible. The situation is looking much better with a decline in case numbers and vaccinations available, but we still must be careful that our campus does not become a “super spreader” of the virus. The new strains of the COVID virus seem to be easier to spread and also more dangerous for children. We do plan to start providing onsite support services once the Navajo Nation has lifted the shelter in place and curfew orders.
