The end of the Census is nearly here and Pinon School District needs your help to reach the finish line. The Federal Funding that supports our community is based on the Census results and we need everyone to be counted to ensure we have what we need for the next 10 years to support our community. 5 minutes for 10 years of funding directly impacted by your count, please be counted. Road maintenance, public transit, schools, healthcare, SNAP, housing assistance, and more that directly impact our community is at stake. Your Count is important. The Pinon Governing Board unanimously approved an extension to our distance/online learning plan until the end of the semester on December 18, 2020. I know virtual learning has been a challenging situation for many students and families. Making the decision to extend now provides stability for families and PUSD staff to plan for the months ahead. We understand that this decision may be a hardship for some but we need to do all we can to maintain safety and stop the spread of COVID-19.
We do have Chromebook laptops available for all PUSD students to check out if you do not have a device available at home. We now have 14 school buses with WiFi connections available throughout the district Monday through Friday for drive-up internet services for PUSD students. We also have a guest WiFi network available on campus for PUSD students that is available each day until curfew begins and is also available on Saturdays.
We thank you for the effort and support you are providing to your students during this difficult time. We look forward to partnering with you in the days ahead to provide the best education possible to our students. We miss them here on campus and hope all of our students and families are safe and healthy!

Today we begin our Meals on Wheels program utilizing 5 buses to deliver meals to children in the Pinon Unified District boundaries. We are utilizing the after school activity routes and will be on main roads only. These buses don't have WiFi connections. WiFi buses will continue to be parked in their designated locations.
The Meals on Wheels program will run on Tuesday's and Thursday's.

As a follow up to the Department of Education communication last week, the Arizona Department of Administration (ADOA) and the Arizona Department of Health Services (ADHS) have partnered with Hanes to provide free face masks to Arizonans that need them the most. We encourage parents on behalf of students, school staff members, or anyone who may not be able to purchase a mask to place an order on our website. Please note, bulk orders for schools/school districts are currently not available. We recommend that schools utilize existing channels of communication to forward the order form link to school staff and parents of middle and high school students.

NAVAJO DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH--
NAVAJO OFFICE OF ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH & PROTECTION PROGRAM dated
August 6, 2020,
Public Health Emergency Order No. 2020-019. The waiver was approved today by the Arizona Department Of Education. This means that PUSD campus buildings will remain closed to students until at least Monday, September 21. If you were contacted by the school for services on campus beginning on Monday, that will be delayed until September 21. We are committed to providing services and supports to our students. Please contact the schools if you have questions or need additional support. Thank you and have a great weekend!

Thank you students and families for your efforts to make the first four days of school successful. We do appreciate your patience as we move to the new structure for the first quarter of the year.
A reminder on attendance:
All students do need to check in with the schools every day for attendance. Each of the schools is sending a Google Form for checking in each morning. The link to the form is in the student’s PUSD email each day. Students are asked to check in before 7:55 am. If students are unable to complete this form then the parent or guardian would need to call into the school office. Attendance can also be taken by participating in the Zoom or Google online meetings each day.
We do have students with perfect attendance for the first four days of school! Congratulations!
Daily attendance is still required under Arizona law, even during this time of distance learning. A student’s enrollment will still be dropped for ten consecutive days of absence.

PAMS Parents and/or Guardians,
Your PAMS student will receive an email every morning to check in for attendance. Please have your child check in by 8:15am every day. Directions to check in:
1. Go to www.google.com
2. Click on google email in upper right hand corner.
3. Enter student’s email address ([email protected])
4. Enter student’s password: DOB, Capitalized Student’s Initials, special character
6th grade: mmddyyLO#

5. You should be in Google email. Click on the Google Form Attendance in the student’s email. Complete all questions and submit by 8:15am every morning.
*If your child does not check in by 8:15am, a front office staff member will be calling you.
Check in will be easier from the Google email app. If you would like, you can download this app on your phone or onto your child’s phone from the App Store. It’s a free app. Otherwise, you can access Google email from the internet through your browser.
You can access Google accounts from any smart phone, tablet, Chromebook or laptop with a data plan or internet connection.
*Welcome packages were sent out on Friday, so please check your mail Monday or Tuesday. Instructional packet #1 will be mailed out on Monday, so that should be in your mailbox Wednesday.
If your child is online for instruction, Google classrooms and assignments have already been set-up. Live class sessions start tomorrow with ELA Class at 10:30am and Math Class at 12:15pm. If you have any questions, please call our front office at 725-2301.

Student Enrollment Updates for SY 2020-2021
Returning Students
A. Returning students to Pinon USD #4 do not need to turn in an enrollment packet to begin the school year:
a. Your school site will work with you on verification of Arizona residency as required by A.R.S. 15-802 throughout the school year.
b. An updated immunization record may need to be provided for some students and again your school site will work with you on obtaining this information. ****Immunizations can be picked up at Pinon Clinic, park in the Medication Parking area in the back row, an IHS worker will come out so they can retrieve your child's’ information from you and will return with your up-to-date copy of immunizations. (HAVE YOUR Driver License/ID) Bring your own PEN for signature and wear a mask.
B. Students moving from one school to another school would need to submit a re-enrollment packet. I.E. All sixth graders and ninth graders.
New Students
A. New Students will need to fill out an enrollment packet to begin the school year.
B. Enrollment packets can be mailed back or dropped off at the drop box located at the security station.
C. Immunizations for New enrollments: Immunizations can be faxed or emailed from the Medical Facility to the school office. Please call the school that your child will attend for information the on fax number.
